Why Ann Wauters supports Forbidden Colours?
Ann wauters is joining Forbidden Colours as ambassador
I am honoured and enthusiastic about becoming an ambassador for Forbidden Colours. In my personal journey, I have been fortunate to experience unwavering acceptance and support from my family, friends and teammates in the different basketball teams I played for, regarding my homosexuality and the life I share with my wife and our kids.
This has made me acutely aware of the privileges I enjoy today, earned through the struggles and sacrifices of those who fought for the human rights of LGBTIQ+ people.
Recognising that the fight for equal rights is far from over and the struggle for human rights for LGBTIQ+ people endures. Not everyone comprehends that this is an intrinsic part of one’s identity and a matter of self-respect. It is not a choice to be judged or claimed by others.
Drawing from my experience as a basketball player, I was fortunate to be part of an environment where I could safely come out and it is my aspiration to ensure that everyone, regardless of their background, can experience such acceptance.
Becoming an ambassador for Forbidden Colours aligns with my values and aspirations. I advocate not through aggression or provocation but by exemplifying the principles of living together in peace and respecting others for who they are. As a lesbian former athlete with a family, I strive to be a positive example.
I am eager to contribute to the initiative’s goal of supporting projects that enhance the well-being and empowerment of the LGBTIQ+ communities. Together with allies and sympathisers, we can amplify a powerful message that reinforces the importance of safeguarding and defending our collective rights. I believe that our combined efforts can contribute significantly to creating a world where everyone can live authentically, free from prejudice and discrimination.
